Iraqi parliament has unanimously approved legislation that criminalizes any forms of normalizing ties with Israel

The legislative body said the law represents a true reflection of the Iraqi people’s will. It urged Arab and Islamic parliaments to follow suit. The bill requires all Iraqi officials, including those in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region, as well as institutions and media to refrain from establishing relations with Israel. Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement has hailed the move as a historic decision to counter the trend of normalization by some Arab countries. The United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Bahrain, and Morocco established diplomatic ties with Israel in 2020 under US-brokered deals. Palestinians see the normalization as a stab in their back.
