US Intelligence Agency: Iran not threat to peace in Afghanistan

The US intelligence agency has acknowledged that Iran is not a threat to the alleged US-led peace process in Afghanistan.

The Defense Intelligence Agency said Iranian goals match up with a recent US-Taliban peace deal. According to the statement, Iran’s strategic objectives include protecting Shia populations, eliminating the Daesh terrorists in Central Asia, opposing the US presence in the region and securing Iranian economic interests. The report directly contradicts US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s claim. Pompeo claimed in January that Iran is actively working to undermine the peace process.
