The Debate - U.S. Yemen Terror Designation

PressTV 8 views
The US has rejected a plea by the UN to reverse a decision declaring Yemen’s Ansarullah movement a terrorist group. UN officials have opposed the designation, citing its humanitarian impact and the dire consequences for the peace process in Yemen. UN humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock has said the designation could cause a famine not seen in the past four decades. Yemen has been devastated by the Saudi-led war that started in 2015. The UN has described Yemen as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Ansarullah and its allied army units are fighting Riyadh and its regional allies which are backed by Washington. The designation will come into effect on January 19, the last full day in office of President Donald Trump’s administration.
