The United Nations says Yemen is speeding towards the worst famine seen in decades due to years of war. UN Humanitarian Chief Mark Lowcock said 16 million people are going hungry across Yemen. This is while Yemen’s Supreme Council for management of humanitarian affairs says Saudi-backed militants are using civilians and displaced people as human shields in the ongoing clashes in Yemen’s city of Ma’rib. On Thursday Ansarullah deployed troops to the city of Ma’rib which is a stronghold of loyalists of the former Yemeni government. The Daesh terrorist group has openly confirmed that its members are fighting alongside Saudi-backed mercenaries against Yemen’s army and popular forces in the province of Ma’rib. The country has been devastated by a war waged by Saudi Arabia and its allies since March 2015. The kingdom has has also imposed an all-out blockade that has hampered aid imports to Yemen.
