The UN special envoy for Yemen says efforts to reach a ceasefire in the war-torn country are not making headway after week-long intense negotiations. In a statement, Martin Griffiths said talks have failed to reach a peace deal between Yemen’s warring sides. Griffiths added that the fighting continues unabated causing immense suffering to civilians. The U-N official underlined his commitment to continue engaging sides in order to find a common ground. Delegations from Saudi Arabia and the United States also participated in the talks between forces loyal to ex-Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Ansarullah movement. Since February, the UN has been pushing for a nationwide ceasefire and the launch of a political dialog to end the conflict.
