The United Nations Human Rights Council has nominated a panel for investigating crimes committed during Israel’s 11-day war on the Gaza Strip. Former UN rights chief, Navi Pillay, will head the three-person commission of inquiry. The panel will investigate Israeli war crimes committed in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and also possible violations by Palestinian resistance movement Hamas. Israel has opposed the probe and said it won’t cooperate with the team. At least 250 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed in the conflict that ended in a May 21st ceasefire. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet has said Israeli airstrikes on Gaza might constitute war crimes.
