New data shows British forces are linked to the death of nearly 300 Afghan civilians including dozens of children. The figures were obtained by a series of freedom of information requests from the Ministry of Defense compensation logs. The numbers show some 2,400 pounds in compensation paid on average for each life lost. The data also revealed that 86 children were among the victims with the youngest recorded civilian victim being just three years old. The information was compiled by Action on Armed Violence charity group following the withdrawal of western forces from Afghanistan last month. The group estimates more than 20,000 civilians were killed or injured by international and Afghan forces during the 20-year conflict in the war-ravaged country.
