Iran Foreign Ministry: Doubling down on sanctions won't create leverage for US in Vienna talks

Iran warns the United States that imposing more sanctions won’t create any leverage in the Vienna talks. Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, says such moves show anything but seriousness and goodwill. He notes that Washington’s so-called maximum pressure policy against Tehran runs contrary to any diplomatic breakthrough. The comments come after the U-S Treasury Department announced fresh sanctions on a number of Iranian entities and nationals over alleged human rights violations. Tehran and the other signatories to the 20-15 nuclear deal have so far held seven rounds of talks in Vienna with the aim of removing anti-Iran sanctions. The latest round of negotiations is now in recess and will resume on Thursday.
